Playing Card Sizes
Poker Playing Cards
Poker playing cards are also known as “wide”. Poker cards are 2 ½” x 3 ½” in size. A deck of poker cards consists of 52 cards. Poker playing cards are larger because you normally hold fewer cards in poker games.
Bridge Playing Cards
Bridge playing cards are also known as “narrow”. Bridge Cards are 2 ¼” x 3 7/16” in size. A deck of bridge cards consists of 52 cards. Bridge playing cards are smaller because you normally hold more cards in bridge.
Playing Card Index Sizes
The indexes on playing cards are the numbers, letters and suit in the corners of each card; 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A.
Standard Index – This is the standard and most common size of index.
Jumbo Index – This index is about 1.5 times larger than standard index.
Magnum index – This index is about 4 to 5 times larger than standard index.
Dual Index – In addition to the standard index on the card, there is a second index. The second index is located in all 4 corners and is angled toward the corner of the card. This gives you the ability to see the index by only lifting the corner of the card.
4 pip index – These cards have indexes in each of the 4 corners. This style of card allows a left-handed player to view the cards easier.
Playing Card Material
Plastic Coated Playing Cards – This type of card is the most common type available. They are paper that is coated with plastic. These cards are usually less expensive. The downside to this type of card is that they will easily bend, tear and crease. Once that happens the cards are marked and no longer useable. The marking of a card may be done accidently or it may be done on purpose. Water will also destroy this type of card.
Plastic Playing Cards – This type of card is a professional grade playing card. They are usually more expensive than plastic coated cards. These cards are highly durable and will last for years. They will not bend, tear or crease. Plastic cards are also waterproof and very easy to clean.Because of their long life, they will actually cost you less than plastic coated cards.
